Clinical Psychologist in New York City

Cidna Valentin, Ph.D

Clinical Psychologist | Clinical Director and Supervisor

Do you feel uncertain about starting therapy? Does it feel daunting to begin? Choosing to engage in psychotherapy can be a daunting endeavor. The uncertainty of the process and of the revelations to uncover can make us feel apprehensive about whether to commit or not. Yet, when we allow fear of stigma, judgment, and the perception of personal weakness to be barriers to caring for our mental well-being, we continue to suffer and deny ourselves the opportunity to realize our healthiest potential. No matter the problem or conflict that brings us to therapeutic spaces, the empathic and intimate relationship between a therapist and client, by which emotional aches are more closely examined and treated, can alone be healing.

As a clinician of diverse cultural experiences, as well as personal background, I value culturally-relevant and integrative evidence-based practice. I have flexibility in psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal therapeutic approaches. I am most adept with adolescents and adults, although I have experience working with clients across the lifespan in a variety of settings, practicing most recently in global mental health. Through the lens of social justice, I am dedicated to creating healing spaces for people of color and underserved communities.
